Octagon music society
A short history
The Octagon Music Society saw five performing seasons until it settled on its permanent name.
Our first concert was given at Watford’s Pump House by the Aldenham Ensemble in November 1974. We continued there for five years and were called The Pump House Society, until the end of our 1978-1979 season.
We moved to The Hartspring Suite in Bushey in October 1979 and began our sixth season with a concert by the London Oboe Quartet. The Hartspring Suite was a designated community space in the then Bushey Leisure Centre. This lovely octagonal shaped room worked so well for our concerts, that we changed our name, and the Octagon Music Society came into being.
After continuing our concerts at the Hartspring Suite for 18 years, we moved to Bushey’s Purcell School, and then finally settled at the Clarendon Muse in October 2008.
The Muse was a brand-new, purpose-built music school with its own beautiful concert hall, and our concerts have continued there with success ever since.
